    MEET YOUR WALK LEADERS

    MEET DAVE
Dave lives in Hobart with his partner and three awesome boys. He is often found with his arms wrapped around a banjo and leaning into a microphone, or, over a holiday period, pressing up the side of a hill in some old hiking boots with one of his sons cajoling him forward. Dave has carved out a long career in teaching working exclusively in alternative education settings where he has a deep interest in trauma care. He hopes to one day own his own apple press in the pursuit of homemade apple cider. For Dave, strong communities make strong people, and it is to this end that he is motivated to make a difference.
    MEET AL
Alistair (Al) is a father of three teenagers and lives with his family where the bush meets the sea in Coningham, Tasmania. When he’s not building or taking photos, you may find him on a stand up paddle board or hunting deer. Al has managed large reserves in central Australia, was a founding director of ‘Conservation Management Pty Ltd’ assisting First Nations and other communities with land management and loves building and landscaping, especially with large rocks. Al’s values are family, community and healing others to make landscapes healthier for future generations. He also really likes hanging out with mates and walking!

    FAQ

WHY IS THE WALK JUST FOR BLOKES?

    add remove
Walk for a Bloke is a unique event for blokes to come together and walk 25kms to raise awareness and funds for bloke’s mental health.

It also serves as medicine, enabling blokes to be active, to connect, listen, learn and to share in the walk and building resilience through action.  We recognise wives, girlfriends, sisters, mothers and mates play an important role in blokes lives and welcome the women in your life to join as a supporter (see ticketing option) or a volunteer (contact bec@spoketoabloke.org).

    WHERE DOES THE MONEY GO?

    add remove

We started Spoke to a Bloke after losing our brother and best mate to suicide. As a team, we work on the charity weekends and after hours, we are passionate about making a real impact. 100% of funds raised goes directly to running the charity, our events and projects to support blokes mental health.

For more information on where the money goes visit our projects.

WHY DOES THE WALK FINISH AT HOTELS, PUBS AND CLUBS?

    add remove
The feedback we have had is blokes want to get together and celebrate completing the walk. We encourage blokes to take the opportunity to continue conversations they started on the walk and share in their achievement of completing the walk together.

    TRANSPORT

    add remove

We suggest the use of public transport or organising pick up/drop off with friends or family for ease on the day.  All routes are different so please take time to consider your walk map and plan accordingly.

    add remove

If you are attending an organised location, we welcome everyone on the day.  If you are walking on your own there will be an opportunity for you to make yourself known and buddy up with other solo walkers if you wish.

For our grab a mate and walk anywhere option, please do just this - grab a mate and enjoy a day of great conversations and checking in on each other wherever your 25km walk may take you.

WHAT IF 25KM IS TOO MUCH FOR ME ON THE DAY?

    add remove

All walkers have the option of ending their walk at anytime they feel necessary along the course.  We encourage you to join us at the end venue to continue conversations and share in achievements together.  If you do decide to exit the course, please ensure you let a volunteer or event lead know.
