MEET YOUR WALK LEADER

MEET JAMES
I am James, father of 3 and live in Richmond, London having also spent an unforgettable 3 years in Manly, Sydney 10 years ago.

I first met Nick professionally in 2006 in London and our work relationship developed into friendship and our families connected when we were both living in Sydney. Coincidentally, I also met Paul Dunn one of the founders whilst playing for Harbord Diggers before Nick moved back to Australia. Having had my own  challenges with my own mental health, if I can do my little bit to raise awareness and help the next bloke reach out and talk about their challenges then it's a charity and a movement I want to get involved with and support.

FAQ

WHY IS THE WALK JUST FOR BLOKES?

add remove
Walk for a Bloke is a unique event for blokes to come together and walk 25kms to raise awareness and funds for bloke’s mental health.

It also serves as medicine, enabling blokes to be active, to connect, listen, learn and to share in the walk and building resilience through action.  We recognise wives, girlfriends, sisters, mothers and mates play an important role in blokes lives and welcome the women in your life to join as a supporter (see ticketing option) or a volunteer (contact bec@spoketoabloke.org).

WHERE DOES THE MONEY GO?

add remove
We started Spoke to a Bloke after losing our brother and best mate to suicide. As a team, we work on the charity weekends and after hours, we are passionate about making a real impact. 100% of funds raised goes directly to running the charity, our events and projects to support blokes mental health.

For more information on where the money goes visit our projects.

WHY DOES THE WALK FINISH AT HOTELS, PUBS AND CLUBS?

add remove
The feedback we have had is blokes want to get together and celebrate completing the walk. We encourage blokes to take the opportunity to continue conversations they started on the walk and share in their achievement of completing the walk together.

TRANSPORT

CAN I WALK ON MY OWN

add remove

If you are attending an organised location, we welcome everyone on the day.  If you are walking on your own there will be an opportunity for you to make yourself known and buddy up with other solo walkers if you wish.

For our grab a mate and walk anywhere option, please do just this - grab a mate and enjoy a day of great conversations and checking in on each other wherever your 25km walk may take you.

WHAT IF 25KM IS TOO MUCH FOR ME ON THE DAY?

add remove

All walkers have the option of ending their walk at anytime they feel necessary along the course.  We encourage you to join us at the end venue to continue conversations and share in achievements together.  If you do decide to exit the course, please ensure you let a volunteer or event lead know.

OUR ALCOHOL POLICY

add remove

We recognise that alcohol can be a contributing factor to mental health challenges among blokes. As such, the event does not promote or encourage the consumption of alcohol, and alcohol is not included in the price of the entry ticket.

We respect the personal choices of each participant regarding alcohol consumption. At each end venue, lunch will be available for purchase at own arrangements, and both alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages will be available for purchase at the discretion of the attendee.

Alcohol service will be managed by the venue in accordance with responsible service guidelines to ensure consumption is safe and appropriate.
