Walk for a Bloke Sydney South

What is Walk for a Bloke

Walk for a Bloke is more than just a 25km challenge. It’s a day for blokes to step up, walk side by side, and make a real difference for men’s mental health.

This is your chance to reconnect with old mates, meet new ones, and be part of something bigger - a movement that gets blokes talking, walking, and supporting one another.

Whether you walk solo, rally your mates into a team, or get your whole workplace involved, every step you take helps change the story for men’s mental health.

My 3 year story

Monday 19th Jan
For those that do not know what the past three years has dealt me here goes. (Yes this will be therapeutic to a degree)
Three years ago I had a major accident that left me with multiple fractures (15), torn ligaments & tendons (9), dislocations (2), a contusion and concussion just to be sure.
Along period in Hospital followed by three months of physical rehab.
In this period away from work my business stopped delivering what it was supposed to do and I put it into Liquidation.
As one of the fractures was to my L4 vertebrae I was having spinal epidural & steroid injections about every 4 months to assist with managing the pain as well as injections into my neck.
From the concussion I was having extreme headaches and required a CT scan and and MRI that found some bleeding on my brain, a clot and impact aneurysms.
This required me to have a crainiotomy in December '24 to have not 1 but 2 aneurysms clamped and wrapped, the clot removed and an aneurysm to be left, under watch, as it has adhered to my left frontal lobe.
Overcame the operation and recovery period and was in severe pain in my back so booked in for another spinal injection.
From this injection I contracted Bacterial Meningitis, requiring ICU hospitalisation.
The final straw had dropped and so did my mental state leading to me spending six weeks in a mental care facility.
Am I OK now? I'm getting better with fewer days of being worse.
Doing this walk is my way of physically paying back to help those that can't do what I had the support to do, and making that support easier to utilise. Though most important of all is to help in taking the stigma away of male mental issues away.
So here I am now taking one step at a time towards better mental health and physically going to take about 33,700 steps to help others.
Please support me in supporting them.
