Why I’m Doing the Spoke to a Bloke Charity Walk
I’ve signed up for the Spoke to a Bloke charity walk, and honestly, this is a big deal for me.
This charity focuses on men’s mental health, which is something I’m really close to — not because it sounds good on paper, but because I live it every day. I struggle pretty badly with my own mental health, and even though this is my first time doing something like this, it just felt right.
Mental health isn’t always easy to talk about, especially as a bloke. A lot of us grow up learning to keep things to ourselves, to “push through it,” or to not make a fuss. I’ve done that for years. Sometimes it works, sometimes it really doesn’t. And when it doesn’t, it can feel incredibly isolating.
That’s why Spoke to a Bloke means so much to me. They’re about breaking that silence — creating space for real conversations, real support, and reminding men that they’re not weak for struggling. They’re human.
On the 21st of March, I’ll be taking on a 25km walk on the Gold Coast. I won’t lie — it’s going to be tough. But in a way, that’s kind of the point. Mental health can be tough. Some days feel like a long walk with no clear finish line, and you just keep putting one foot in front of the other.
This walk is my way of showing up — for myself and for others who are battling things quietly. It’s not about being the fittest or strongest. It’s about doing something uncomfortable for a cause that genuinely matters.
If you’re reading this and you’ve ever struggled, I hope you know you’re not alone. And if you haven’t personally experienced it, chances are someone you care about has.
I’m raising funds to support Spoke to a Bloke so they can continue the work they do — helping men feel heard, supported, and less alone. Any support, whether that’s a donation, sharing this page, or just starting a conversation with someone who might need it, honestly means more than you know.
Thanks for taking the time to read this and for supporting a cause that could change — and save — lives.
