Meet Your Walk Leaders

HI, I'm Sean.  My beautiful partner and extended family are closely related to Nick.  Ex Police for 24 years, I observed far too many men commit suicide and I also saw the impacts of it on so many.  I commonly have friends and friends of friends going through rough patches and have already helped these guys out and assisted in them turning things around so they can live their best lives.  Love being a part of Spoke to A Bloke and making a difference, whilst also raising awareness for Mens Mental Health in memory of Nick.
Hi, I'm Sharen, my connection to Spoke to a Bloke runs deep - Nick was my eldest cousin. I first joined the movement by taking part in a walk in Broome with my sister Laila and partner Sean during the same year the boys in Sydney did their first walk. At the time, I never imagined how big this movement would become, or how many men and families across the world would benefit from it.

Broome, a small and remote town in the Kimberley, is a place where this walk truly makes a difference. Spoke to a Bloke has reached so many men and families here in such a positive and meaningful way, and I’m honoured to be a part of it.

I never thought my own family would be touched by suicide - but we have, sadly and shockingly. What the boys in Sydney have accomplished is truly incredible. As Paul and Adrian my cousins, Matt and Scott my friends since our early teens, I’m both proud and humbled to be involved in continuing their message of hope, support, and connection.

Absolutely!  If you are attending an organised location, we welcome everyone on the day.   If you are walking on your own there will be an opportunity for you to make yourself known to our walk leaders or volunteers and buddy up with other solo walkers if you wish.

For our walk anywhere option, please reach out to a friend, and enjoy a day of great conversations and checking in on each other wherever your 25km walk may take you.

All walkers have the option of ending their walk at any time they feel necessary along the course.  We encourage you to join us at the end venue to continue conversations and share in achievements together.  If you do decide to exit the course, please ensure you let a volunteer or event lead know.

WHERE DOES THE MONEY GO?

add remove

We started Spoke to a Bloke after losing our brother and best mate to suicide. As a team, we work on the charity weekends and after hours, we are passionate about making a real impact. 100% of funds raised goes directly to running the charity, our events and projects to support blokes mental health.

For more information on the impact you are a part of, please visit our projects.

WHY IS THE WALK JUST FOR BLOKES?

add remove

Walk for a Bloke is a unique event for blokes to come together and walk 25kms to raise awareness and funds for bloke’s mental health.

It also serves as medicine, enabling blokes to be active, to connect, listen, learn and to share in the walk and build resilience through action.  We recognise wives, girlfriends, sisters, mothers and mates play an important role in blokes' lives.  Family, friends and supporters are welcome to volunteer on the day or to meet you at the end of the walk to celebrate your achievements.  To  volunteer please contact cassie@spoketoabloke.org.

WHY DOES THE WALK FINISH AT HOTELS, PUBS AND CLUBS?

add remove
The feedback we have had is blokes want to get together and celebrate completing the walk. We encourage blokes to take the opportunity to continue conversations they started on the walk and share in their achievement of completing the walk together.

OUR ALCOHOL POLICY

add remove

We recognise that alcohol can be a contributing factor to mental health challenges among blokes. As such, the event does not promote or encourage the consumption of alcohol, and alcohol is not included in the price of the entry ticket.

We respect the personal choices of each participant regarding alcohol consumption. At each end venue, lunch will be available for purchase at own arrangements, and both alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages will be available for purchase at the discretion of the attendee.

Alcohol service will be managed by the venue in accordance with responsible service guidelines to ensure consumption is safe and appropriate.
